You can tuft with almost any type of yarn that fits through the needle of your tufting machine. The most common tufting yarns are sheep's wool, acrylic yarn, and cotton.
What you choose depends entirely on your project, but there are a few general rules to keep in mind. For a bathroom rug, we recommend using acrylic or cotton yarn. Wool absorbs water too easily, doesn’t dry properly, and isn’t ideal for wet environments like a bathroom.
However, if you’re making a trivet or hot pad, wool is the best choice. Wool is heat-resistant, meaning it won’t melt or leave burn marks when you place a hot pan on it.
